Windshield camera calibration in Orlando, FL
After a new windshield, the camera behind it has to be recalibrated so lane keeping and automatic braking see the road correctly. We do it on site, at your home or workplace, with an Autel scan tool and the manufacturer's targets for your make. With a windshield insurance claim, it's included at no extra cost.
What the windshield camera does
Most newer cars, SUVs and trucks have a forward-facing camera mounted behind the windshield, near the rearview mirror. It feeds the driver-assistance systems (ADAS) that watch the road for you.
Lane keeping
Warns you or steers back when the car drifts out of its lane.
Automatic emergency braking
Brakes on its own when it detects a car or a person ahead.
Traffic sign recognition
Reads speed limit signs and shows them on the dashboard.
Automatic high beams
Switches the high beams on and off for oncoming traffic.
When the camera needs calibration
A new windshield sits a fraction of a millimeter differently from the old one, and the camera moves with it. A tiny change in angle is enough for the system to misjudge where the lane is or how far away the car ahead is.
Calibration brings the camera back to the manufacturer's specifications. Before we start, we scan the vehicle and tell you whether it needs calibration, as Florida law requires.
Your vehicle may need it after
- A windshield replacement on a vehicle with a camera.
- Removing or replacing the camera or its bracket.
- A wheel alignment or suspension work.
- Front-end collision repair.
- A lane assist or camera warning light on the dashboard.
Static and dynamic calibration
Static calibration
The vehicle stays parked on level ground. We set the manufacturer's target at a measured distance in front of the car, and the scan tool aligns the camera to it. We do it in your driveway or parking lot.
Dynamic calibration
We drive the vehicle at a set speed on roads with clear lane markings while the camera relearns, following the procedure on the scan tool.
Some vehicles need one, some need both. The manufacturer's procedure decides, not us. Either way, it usually adds 30 minutes to 1 hour to the windshield replacement.

How we calibrate on site
We do the calibration ourselves, so you don't need a separate trip to the dealer. Everything happens where your car is parked, right after the new windshield goes in.
When we finish, we show you the successful result on the scan tool, and the calibration is listed on your invoice.
- Scan the vehicle to find the camera system and confirm whether calibration is required.
- Set up the manufacturer's target for your make, on level ground.
- Run the static calibration, the road drive, or both.
- Run a final scan to confirm the calibration succeeded.
- List the calibration on your invoice.
Calibration cost
When the calibration is part of a windshield claim under comprehensive coverage, it's included at no extra cost, and we bill your insurer directly. Florida Statute § 627.7288 waives the deductible for windshield damage.
Calibration on its own, after an alignment, suspension work or collision repair, is priced by vehicle and location. Call us with the year, make and model for a quote.
For body shops and dealerships
We calibrate windshield cameras at your shop or lot after repairs or on inventory. See our dealership and fleet service.
Where we calibrate
We come to you from our base in Winter Garden, across Orlando and Central Florida.

Calibration questions
How long does windshield camera calibration take?
Usually between 30 minutes and 1 hour, on top of the windshield replacement. It depends on the vehicle and on whether it needs a static calibration, a road drive or both.
What's the difference between static and dynamic calibration?
Static calibration is done with the vehicle parked: we place the manufacturer's target at a measured distance in front of the car and the scan tool aligns the camera to it. Dynamic calibration is done by driving the vehicle at a set speed on roads with clear lane markings while the camera relearns. Some vehicles need one, some need both.
Can you calibrate the camera without replacing the windshield?
Yes. The camera may also need calibration after a wheel alignment, suspension work or front-end collision repair. The price depends on the vehicle and your location, so call us for a quote.
Do I have to go to the dealer for calibration?
No. We calibrate windshield cameras ourselves, on site, with an Autel scan tool and the manufacturer's targets for each make, so you don't need a separate trip to the dealer.
Is camera calibration covered by insurance in Florida?
When the calibration is part of a windshield claim under comprehensive coverage, it's included at no extra cost to you, and we bill your insurer directly.
What happens if the camera isn't calibrated?
The camera can read the road slightly off. Lane keeping may drift or switch off, automatic emergency braking may react late or not at all, and you may see a warning light on the dashboard.
